Description:

This minds-on, hands-on workshop explores how early experiences with sets and structures can build a foundation of for success in abstract mathematics. Participants will explore the big ideas of algebraic thinking through activities, children’s literature and video, gain a deeper understanding of foundational math, and consider how to most effectively support their students’ developing thinking and skills.

Instructors:

Nicole Cesario, M.Ed.

Nicole Cesario, M.Ed., is coach with the Erikson Early Math Collaborative. Currently, she is engaged in working on a special grant with the Chicago Public Schools, mentoring teachers grades K-3 to help them become higher impact math teachers. Cesario has taught first and second grade for eight years and was an induction coach for beginning teachers with the Chicago New Teacher Center. She has been a mentor and facilitator to teachers seeking their National Board Certification.

Jill Sapoznick, M.A.Ed.

Sapoznick completed a master's degree in education from Pepperdine University. She has taught in a variety of classrooms In Illinois, and has endorsements in Spanish, ESL, and Bilingual Education.
