American Library Association honors Jim Gill, '92
Jim Gill's latest children's book and CD,
A Soup Opera
, has been named a 2010 Notable Children's Recording by the American Library Association (ALA). The book and CD combination, which were inspired by Gill's concerts performed with symphony orchestras around the country, are meant to inspire playful interaction between children and adults. Gill has been creating "music play" for young children for over twenty years.
A Soup Opera
is his fourth creation to receive an award from the ALA.
AEI honors Toby Herr, '82
In 1985,
Toby Herr, ’82,
had an insight into the lives of the chronically unemployed: the problem wasn’t the lack of a job. In response, she founded
Project Match to give the unemployed the developmental supports they needed to join the world of work. Project Match’s employment model for community-based organizations and case management system for welfare agencies have both been replicated at sites around the country. To recognize the power of Herr’s insight and the organization she created to act on it, Herr received the
Founders Award
at the Alumni of Erikson Institute annual meeting held Oct. 29, 2010.
