AEI honors alumna Judith Bertacchi

In her long and active career,
Judith Bertacchi, ’71, has taught, trained, supported, and consulted and collaborated with countless early childhood professionals. Many of them turned out to honor her outstanding contributions when she received the Founders Award at the Alumni of Erikson Institute annual meeting held Nov. 21.
Bertacchi’s career began with an Erikson education and remained closely knit with the Institute. She served as a trustee for many years and continues to teach Erikson courses. After many years vice president for service programs at the Ounce of Prevention Fund. She also worked for many years in various roles at Virginia Frank Child Development Center and for the Ounce of Prevention Fund.
Friends, colleagues and former classmates shared their stories and appreciation of her contributions. Marsha Hawley, ’89, AEI second vice president, presented the award. Bertacchi accepted with grace and wit, keeping the crowd laughing as she thanked her husband and daughters for their support.
The annual event drew 80 guests, who enjoyed a reception in the Irving B. Harris Commons and tours of the building before the dinner meeting.
