Come listen to M.S.W. faculty candidate Jennifer Mullins Geiger, M.S.W., present a talk to the Erikson community entitled “Exploring Parenting Attitudes and Parental Risk of Child Maltreatment among Youth Aging out of Foster Care.”

Please join us for this exchange of ideas among scholars.

Geiger is a Ph.D. candidate at Arizona State University. Her research focuses on identifying ecological factors that increase or decrease the risk associated with child abuse and neglect as parents — such as education and social support — in an effort to inform future prevention and intervention efforts with this extremely vulnerable group.

Geiger’s other work includes a statewide survey of foster parents in Arizona regarding their satisfaction levels, social support, training and preparation, as well as intention to continue fostering. This study evolved from a need in the community to better understand the experiences and needs of foster families and has already garnered attention from various policy makers and practitioners interested in the implications for foster family recruitment and retention.
