Professor Robert Halpern was recognized as one of the 25 most influential people in the after-school field by the National AfterSchool Association after being nominated by association members.

“These leaders bring positive attention and investment to the field,” says Gina Warner, the association’s executive director, adding that the association selects leaders whose service and research influence and impact large numbers of children and families.

“This is a wonderful honor and demonstrates that practitioners and policy makers do pay attention to research,” Halpern says. “The after-school field has grown dramatically in recent years and the struggle for its identity is far from over.”

Halpern’s current research focuses on on the evaluation of after-school programs for underprivileged children and their families.
