Ms. Velasco is a graduate of the Chicago School of Professional Psychology (2016) where she graduated with a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology with a concentration in Latino/a Mental Health. She has completed an intensive 18-month training in Child-Parent Psychotherapy and is also a registered facilitator of Circle of Security Parenting International.
Ms. Velasco has worked with children and families for many years across various settings. Her knowledge and expertise includes extensive understanding of child development, trauma informed practice, psychotherapy of young children in the context of their primary caregiving relationship and classroom observation and consultation. She utilizes a developmental lens and takes culturally responsive and trauma informed approach in her work.
At CCF, Ms. Velasco leads a community mental health project in Chicago’s Humboldt Park neighborhood. Here, Ms. Velasco assumes responsibility of implementation and service provision, which includes classroom observations, teacher consultations, training and workshops and therapy services for young children and their caregivers. As staff clinician in River North, she provides therapy services to families with children under the age of six.
