Teachers can complete Erikson Institute’s endorsement program and prepare for teaching young children.
This 6-course sequence is open to students who have a conferred bachelor’s degree and are already licensed in Illinois for elementary or middle school grades. It offers IL-licensed teachers the program of studies currently required in Illinois to teach young children from birth to second grade. Completion of these courses allows currently licensed teachers a subsequent endorsement in Early Childhood Education with the Illinois State Board of Education.
An active PEL is required for entrance and students must pass the IL Early Childhood Education Context Exam #206. There are no student teaching requirements.
Don’t have an active PEL but want to teach young children? If you have a master’s degree in a discipline similar to education or child development, you may be eligible for the Post-Master Early Childhood Education Initial Licensure Program. We also offer a Master of Science in Early Childhood Education for those without a master’s degree.
Erikson Institute accepts applications on a rolling basis. This means we accept applications throughout the year for all academic terms and programs, and applications are evaluated as they are completed. However, applications received by our Priority Submission Dates for each term will receive primary consideration for scholarship awards.
