Early Childhood STEM
Elevate your practice and strengthen your knowledge of teaching and learning in the disciplines of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), with an emphasis on children in preschool through third grade.
The concentration in Early Childhood STEM will provide you with the latest methods for ensuring that all young children start off on a strong STEM learning trajectory. The courses you will take will give you the necessary grounding in how children explore, play, communicate, and learn about the natural and human-made world around them.
Throughout the program you will work with fellow students to develop lesson plans, activities, and experiences that can be used to support STEM learning during early childhood. We will discuss policies, practices, and frameworks that may help guide you in increasing your STEM practices with young children.
This concentration prepares you to seek the Illinois Gateways to Opportunity Early Care and Education Credential, Levels 2-5, through the Entitled Route. To earn the credential, you will need to complete the appropriate Gateways application and provide documentation of your academic and professional experiences. Requirements, timing and related costs may vary.
