Elf on the Shelf shouldn't supplant discipline strategy, Nickels says

Though she understands the toy’s appeal, she says parents must implement consistent, year-round parenting strategies. “To me, the risk of the elf is that parents think that this is a legitimate, healthy way to teach discipline to their children, which it is not,” Nickels says.
