Erikson’s Director of Policy Cristina Pacione-Zayas appointed to Illinois State Board of Education

On February 25, Erikson’s Director of Policy, Dr. Cristina Pacione-Zayas, was chosen by Governor J.B. Pritzker to serve as Secretary of the Board for the Illinois State Board of Education. Nine other education leaders were selected to join the Board, which has significant influence over state educational policies. The appointees were sworn in at a meeting in Springfield on February 26 following their appointments by Governor Pritzker, and will serve four-year terms, pending confirmation by the Illinois Senate.

According to a statement from the Governor’s Office, the new members will build “a strong team of diverse experts in their fields.” The statement continues, “Pacione-Zayas currently serves as the director of policy at Erikson Institute where she generates systemic solutions leading to equitable opportunities and positive outcomes for young children, families, and communities.”

In her role as Secretary of the Board, Cristina will continue her commitment to keeping early childhood at the forefront and advocating to improve the systems and policies that serve young children and their families.

In November, Cristina was named to Governor Pritzker’s education transition team. The specialized group was charged with advising the administration on policies for all levels of education.
