Fleming’s research featured in The New York Times

Professor Jane Fleming was quoted in The New York Times about the lack of Latino representation in children’s books.

Citing research by Fleming and alumna Sandy Ruvalcaba Carrillo, ’11, the article looks at the impact of seeing oneself represented in literature.

Fleming is quoted saying, “Kids do have a different kind of connection when they see a character that looks like them or they experience a plot or a theme that relates to something they’ve experienced in their lives.”
