Montessori vs. Waldorf vs. HighScope. How should parents choose the right preschool when so many options exist? Erikson Institute’s Director of Teacher Education Gillian McNamee, Ph.D., recommends that parents look close to home or work and visit the preschool to determine if it’s right for his or her child.

“It’s wonderful preschools are identifying themselves and articulating what makes their day really special for children, but that’s not the leading set of indicators I would use to pick a preschool,” she tells Cleveland.com and the Plain Dealer in a series about the first 2,000 days of a child’s life.

“The real test is a parent going in and observing and saying ‘Yes, I could really see my child at home here’ that’s what really counts to a parent,” Dr. McNamee says.
