Illinois Action for Children recognizes Meisels with its Founder’s Award

Illinois Action for Children will honor President Samuel J. Meisels for his work on behalf of children and their families during its A Night to Shine annual benefit on October 19.

He will receive the Sylvia Cotton Award, which Illinois Action for Children presents to individuals and organizations that exemplify its founder’s dedication to organizing and advocating for working families, ensuring that the care and education of children is a priority.

Maria Whelan, president of Illinois Action for Children, described Meisels’s accomplishments as follows:

“With years of research, teaching, and leadership experience, you have greatly impacted the early learning field. In your current role as president of Erikson Institute, a longtime collaborator and renowned institution, you continue to further strong outcomes for young children and their families.”

During the benefit, Kevin Clash, Emmy award-winning Sesame Street puppeteer of Elmo, and Betsy Mitchell, a professional advocate for Illinois AEYC, will also be honored.
