McCormick Foundation honored at Erikson’s 2013 Gala

Guests at Erikson’s 2013 Gala

On June 18, more than 400 people celebrated the potential of young children at Erikson’s annual Gala, raising more than $700,000 in support of Erikson’s work.

Kate Neisser, chair of the Board of Trustees, presented the Spirit of Erikson Award to the Robert R. McCormick Foundation and its president and CEO David Hiller in recognition of the foundation’s 20-year involvement in early care and education and its investment of more than $100 million in young children, including more than $10 million in gifts to Erikson.

In accepting the award, Hiller noted the foundation’s long partnership with Erikson, and their shared goals of creating a system of supports and policies that change how children and families are cared for in Illinois and throughout the nation.

“The field of early childhood really underscores the ability of individuals to make a difference in the world,” Hiller said.

After dinner, guests danced to the music of internationally acclaimed recording artists Pink Martini. The performance was the group’s first pro-bono concert in Chicago.

Trustees Ikram Goldman and Cari Sacks, along with Neisser, chaired this year’s event.
