Jena Valdez is a special educator with a background in learning and behavioral special education and deaf and hard of hearing education. Jena has a master’s degree in early childhood education. She has worked in a variety of settings as a special education teacher including preschool, early elementary, and high school. The bulk of her expertise lies in the Kindergarten to 2nd Grade special education range.
Jena is an adjunct professor in Erikson’s Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) department and is primarily responsible for two courses within the ECSE track.
Working alongside general education teachers in the classroom, Jena would often hear her colleagues express their feelings of inadequacy in teaching students with special needs. Teaching at Erikson is one way that Jena seeks to prepare general education and special education teachers to better meet the needs of their highest-need students.
