The Gala honored the Robert R. McCormick Foundation and its president and CEO David Hiller, and featured a special performance by internationally acclaimed recording artists Pink Martini.

About the 2013 honoreeThe Robert R. McCormick Foundation is one of the largest charitable foundations in the country, committed to fostering communities of educated, informed, and engaged citizens. The foundation has invested $100 million in early care and education in Illinois in the last 20 years and has supported Erikson’s work since 1979. David D. Hiller has served as the president and CEO of the foundation since July 2009. Previously, he headed the Los Angeles Times and the Chicago Tribune Company and was a partner at the Chicago law firm of Sidley & Austin.
He serves on the boards of the Chicago History Museum, The Field Museum, the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center, the Metropolitan Planning Council, and Roosevelt University. He is a member of the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, the Commercial Club of Chicago, and the Economic Club of Chicago.
A native of the Chicago area, Hiller graduated from Harvard College and Harvard Law School.
