About the 2013 honoree

The Robert R. McCormick Foundation is one of the largest charitable foundations in the country, committed to fostering communities of educated, informed, and engaged citizens. The foundation has invested $100 million in early care and education in Illinois in the last 20 years and has supported Erikson’s work since 1979.

David D. Hiller has served as the president and CEO of the foundation since July 2009. Previously, he headed the Los Angeles Times and the Chicago Tribune Company and was a partner at the Chicago law firm of Sidley & Austin.

He serves on the boards of the Chicago History Museum, The Field Museum, the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center, the Metropolitan Planning Council, and Roosevelt University. He is a member of the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, the Commercial Club of Chicago, and the Economic Club of Chicago.

A native of the Chicago area, Hiller graduated from Harvard College and Harvard Law School.

About Pink Martini

A “little orchestra” that features 10 to 12 musicians, Pink Martini draws inspiration from music from all over the world, crossing the genres of classical, jazz, and old-fashioned pop.

Since its 1994 founding by Thomas Lauderdale, Pink Martini has performed its multilingual repertoire on concert stages and with symphony orchestras throughout Europe, Asia, Greece, Turkey, the Middle East, Northern Africa, Australia and New Zealand, South America, and North America.
