In collaboration with Erikson’s doctoral program, Assistant Clinical Professor Luisiana Meléndez, director of bilingual/ESL education, designed and helped implement a program for Head Start and Early Head Start teachers on language and literacy development in young dual language learners.

The nine-month professional development program, presented at El Valor, a community-based organization that provides a range of services to Chicago’s Latina/Latino community, covers methods and materials for teaching young dual language learners and the principles governing the assessment of linguistically diverse learners.
